Folks here might also like to read: “Shop Class As Soulcraft; An Inquiry
Into The Value Of Work” by Matthew B. Crawford. The thesis of the book is
making the case that society has place too much value on white-collar work,
and lessened the value of the trades.

The author was working as an executive at a think tank, but ‘gave it all
up’ to go back to working in motorcycle mechanics. It is when describing
some of the current models of Mercedes that have no dipsticks that he drops
a favorite line of mine: “layers of electronic bullshit”.
