I have both: - a 26" 48cm hunqapillar with either 2.1" smart sams or rat trap pass tires and albastache bars (have tried a MAP and Jones bars on it though) used as an allrounder, camping, and mixed ride bike - and a steel jones 29er diamond frame w/ truss fork and carbon jones bars and 3" tubeless knobbie tires run at ~10-11 psi as my dedicated trail bike.
I started with the Hunqapillar as my 'mountain bike', which was also an introduction to mountain biking for me (and rivendell!). It was actually Clayton.sf's Jones that eventually got me to pull the trigger on a Jones as my new dedicated bike, sending the Hunqapillar to allrounder and mixed ride duties. It's really all about configuration, type of riding, and skill level. I never felt comfortable on the Hunqapillar on technical single track (bay area), I crashed and endoed a lot on steep descents and lacked the confidence I needed on it to keep a stable speed I needed to push through some of it, often times falling over sideways at a snail's pace - this is from a 35 year old beginner mountain biker. I love the Jones for all kinds of trail riding and I get a lot more confidence and am able to handle technical terrain and steep descents a lot better. I'm almost able to keep up with Clayton.sf on his Cheviot ;). The only issue I have with the Jones is that with that low pressure and tubeless setup it feels really squirrelly on the pavement, especially downhill. So I end up only using it for trail rides and not for anything else. I'll almost always grab the hunqapillar if I'm going on a mixed terrain ride. I'm interested in a second wheelset with some super motos for the jones though. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
