Hi Patrick. You've awakened some wind related memories in me! Once upon a time ('00-'04) I lived in Colorado and my in-laws lived down in Santa Fe, NM. We made the road trip often and I always took my bike. Great riding down there, but yeah, lots of wind! Often I would coordinate our visits with cycling events like the Santa Fe Century. Both times that I remember doing that event I recall it ending on a seemingly endless uphill false flat on wide open highway into a brutal headwind coming out of the west. It was mind bending stuff that I can giggle about now. Oh, and the climbs and altitude all combined to drain me of every last bit of energy I had in me. Great stuff.
I also remember living out in San Francisco ('95-'00) in the Twin Peaks neighborhood. I worked down in Fisherman's Wharf and commuted most days by bike. I've never before or since experienced such a brutal, constant head wind coming in through the gate as when I would ride the path along the bay from the Wharf area out to Fort Point. After that the ride up the hill and through the Presidio, Pan Handle, Haight and then up to my apartment on Burnett Ave. was a breeze! Often I would reward myself for my efforts with a few flat laps around the figure-8 road up at the top and then a bomb descent down to my place. Good times! Thanks.
