Ryan:

I wasn't being sensitive to perceived criticism -- some of my bikes <are> a bit
"twee", as I understood the term when I looked it up (having seen it in a post
from Patrick Moore --sorry for the misattribution).

As for the Berthoud flaps, I have a set on my Atlantis, and they are
functionally superb and attractive, too. The key is to make the leather stiff
enough to stay off the wheel and stop the spray, but flexy enough to deal with
curbs. The Berthouds on my Atlantis walk that line very effectively.

well my post(using twee) actually and I've seen them on your bikes and they
look fine. I do like the berthoud mudflaps a lot. I'm just getting the stock
mudflaps for the SKS cream longboards on my mixte though. My partner made me
some homemade jobs on my X0-1 from, I think, deerhide, and these work OK but
the leather's really supple so sometimes it rubs against the rear tire which
was annoying until I figured out that that was the cause of rubbing noises from
my rear wheel.

never look trashed out. And the reflective material piece is VERY reflective. I
like 'em. (But you've seen my bikes, which are doubtless on the "twee" (to use
your word) side.

I see that Riv has one of those fancy, left-coast-type gussied up, pretty
mudflaps made from effete cotton and leather -- probably voted for Hillary --

rubber mudflap in decent, middle-American black rubber, for $8.

I'm tempted to buy the Sackville one just 'cause it's so purty, but damned if
I'm not afraid of being teased for it.

Seriously, how does one of these look after 100 miles of splash, mud, and
slush? Like a tux worn too long away from the dry cleaner?

The Longboard one is a guaranteed performer, I'm sure, but I think that the
Sackville one actually has a better shape, as far as I can tell -- the photos
of the LB one aren't as detailed as I'd like to see.

Which one? This is for the '03's Berthoud fenders. The '03 is nice looking, but
nothing on it chosen merely for pretty.
