Scott, If they removed a listing for out of stock items then surely people may call/email and wonder "where is that item, what happened to it, was it discontinued, and on and on... ?" So instead the listed items shows as "sold out" , and they'll get calls/emails of "why is a sold out item still listed ?" The retailer then, just can't please every possibility, and we all know from personal experience in our own lives.
