Perhaps you might do him a huge favor by taking the day off and sneaking up and stealing his bike yourself. Bring it home, hide it, and let him experience the dismay and shock all too many of us know from personal experience. Better coming from you than from some random thief who won't be able to rescue the situation with a wave of your magic wand.
