i've gone the opposite way as well. at one time, all my bikes had 
albatross-like bars, which was a recoiling from uncomfortable drops on more 
raceish bikes.  ended up trying 46cm noodles on my sam set up at saddle 
height with comfortable brake hoods and it has been dreamy on my wrists, 
easy on my back, and produces a "faster" feeling (im not saying i am 
faster). 
i still am not super confident with them off road or with a heavy front 
load, so i use albastache bars on the bike for those purposes.
