It's a matter of personal preference - there is wide agreement that frontal loads work better with handlebar bags, but without such a load, bikes handle pretty well either way. My comment was not meant to evangelize against the Rivendell geometry, but rather to express that there is some intrinsic merit to the Francophile geometry beyond mere trendiness.
