I have dipped Silver Shifters in PlastiDip, which is the rubbery stuff you 
use to make tool handles grippy.  That was strictly for looks and 
grippiness.  I know of no cover product for a Silver Shifter that would 
enable you to jam the shifter into your leg and have it not hurt.  Maybe if 
you figure out a way to cover your shifters with a tennis ball they 
wouldn't hurt.
