There is an annual car show with concert from 8am-3:30pm in our wee town. Cars
start rolling in about 6am, and thankfully I was doing well enough to head out
at 6. I’m always amazed how quickly after Summer Solstice the mornings cool
off. It was a delicious 40˚F as I started out and I didn’t see the sun until
after my climb up to the reservoir. Cool climbing!

On the way I watched a blue heron swoop in for a landing and begin hunting for
breakfast, two young buck in velvet chawin’ their repast (photo of them linked
below)

It was a wondrous, lazy ride with multiple stops for contemplation waterside at
wee nooks and crannies off the beaten path. The plan had been for my wife and
daughters to come, and we’d make a day of it, me riding with the older ones,
then meeting up with them. But she locked her keys in the house so hiked the
local trails instead until I came home post concert.

I came home and managed to wend my way through the remaining cars and crowds to
my house, costing me more brain energy in that three minutes than the previous
day combined. Next year I’ll stay away till 5. Sardonic grin. What a blessing
to get out and have this ride instead of having to hide in my hobbit hole!
