I've more or less given up on padding - straight cotton seems to work very well for me, I like the looks, and century-plus rides give me no trouble. This having been said, I ride with my bars more or less at saddle height (so I don't put a lot of weight on the handlebars), and I use padded bike gloves. Kevin
