I'm planning to do the same for extra clearance, although not sure I'll go up to the 38mm tires. Currently running the Compass 35mm tires (Bon Jon Pass?)
I just measured with my calipers and since the edges of the Honjos should line up just below the fork's lug, it should be fine. The clearance between the lugs is just under 50mm.
