Glad to hear that you came out okay.  I go with studded fat tires for icy
weather; I don't want to wipe out!

The pods supplied with the Silver shifters are almost completely identical
to the Shimano bar-con pods.  That means they are completely compatible,
but it also means that there is no advantage to switch.

Suntour vintage bar-cons seem sturdier; the shifter is ensconced by the pod
on both sides, compared to the single side design of the Shimano/Silver
pods.

If you need a replacement Shimano/Silver pod, ask on the list.
