Sure, why not ? ! It's a frame Alan, it's "designed" to be ridden any
way you the owner see fit , including how you adorn it. I could totally
see a shorter reach and shallow-er drop bar being used with a 100mm Dirt
Drop stem. Plently of height . Funny how early mtn. bike in the 80's all
cam with bullmoose or flat-ish bars and then someone started putting their
own drops on them. Then began touring with them on the road. So much of
"intended design" !
I don't think the Clem is too long myself. My 60cm. Bombadil has a
63cm. TT that I find is just barely long enough , I'd want it no shorter
than that so 64cm would be no problem with a 1cm. shorter stem. I'm using
Albatross bars w/130mm 0 degree stem now. If I used drops I'd only shorten
the stem by 1 or 2 cm. I have another custom road frame with 62cm ST/62cm
TT and orginally used it with Nitto dirt-drop drops and 130mm 0 degree
stem. When I swithed to Albatross bars I used the same stem and it's
good-enough despite being 1cm. shorter . The bike ride is wonderful with
either bar . I'm average proportion body, not overly long in legs or arms.
I like being more "stretched out" though than most people though, surely
not "upright" !
So yeah . .. do it !
