I agree with them.  Babies don't have to cost that much.  They use 
everything for such a short time that it is usually easy to get the 
essential barely used for next to nothing or passed around among friends.  
And once you see how happy they are with cardboard boxes and kitchen 
utensils, you see you don't have to buy a lot of toys either.  Your bike, 
on the other hand, is a 30-year bike and that cost very little when 
amortized.  Best to just make sure your wife also has a nice bike so you 
can look forward to family outings before you know it.  And since you will 
need to keep your sanity as you enjoy every stage they go through, a bike 
can be a very handy outlet.  

My congratulations too.  Your life will never be the same and in only in 
the best way.
