Hi Friends, need the advice of the collective! My partner Erin has decided
that the beautiful harlequined, paul-thumied, bullmoosed Bosco bars on her
big Cheviot are just not groovin' for her. The problem is that she just
can't sit so upright due to tailbone pain. This tailbone pain is happening
in lots of sitting situations; not unique to biking. Long pelvis; no
cushion; runs in the family. Tried different seats; don't solve the
problem. Anyway, I am trying to help figure out what will work, what parts
we might already have, and what I can do as the household bike mechanic
(okay, that's a laugh, but I persist). some thoughts:

1) she's ridden with noodles, m'bars, and boscos—and the bars she likes the
best are old school mustaches, which she has on her 58 cm QB with a short
stem; maybe 8-10 cm. I have an extra m'bar cockpit with a dirt drop stem
ready to go. but...

2) the 60 cm Cheviot is one loooong big-boned gal, as we like to say. I
slipped the m'bar cockpit into the Cheviot's headset, and the length from
the center hole on Brooks saddle to the bar-through-stem point was 2.25
inches longer than the same distance on the QB. We both think that's too
far forward and would be neck-bothering.

3) looks like the Albastache could solve this length issue because,
compared to the original m'bar the grip area is 2" longer and the crooks
are 1" closer according to Riv. Plus it's wider and I think would be
better proportions visually on the Cheviot. I could take apart the m'bar
cockpit, steal the brake levers and dirt drop, add sunrace shifters, and
sell the Bosco cockpit. (She's not so much thinking about albatrosses
because it would likely still be too upright.)

okay, so now for the questions. Do any of you out there ....

with similar problems? How did you solve them?
have experience moving from original m'bars to albastaches? Do you think
it would solve the 2.25 inch issue?
have albastaches on your Cheviot? Pictures please?
tried mountain bike levers and thumbies on albastaches? Pictures please?

And remember, it takes me about 4-6 times longer to change brake and
derailer cables than you! Maybe!

thanks in advance for your help and stay tuned.
