I'm still experiementing, and yes, rear weight is better (for me), but t'other day I rode home with almost 20 lb in the front Sports Packers -- 20+ lb in one, 18+ lb in the other. Handling was certainly different -- the bike didn't want to turn, but once I got used to leaning more and "turning" less, it felt OK. I daresay 10 lb/side is the max, and I daresay too that the bike would feel better with another 20+ lb in the rear at the same time, but for now that is my theoretical maximum. I recall perversely putting 2 gallons of water *per side* in lowriders on the Sam Hill.
