Well, this is always a bit of an embarrassing exercise: lots of bikes, but mostly only one rider (except for the beach cruisers). Two "garages", one at home in Delaware, one at beach house at the Jersey Shore. I have too many bikes, but always have trouble simplifying my files (I was duly impressed by Bill Lindsay's recent 5 bike purge!). Anyway, here goes.
AT HOME IN DELAWARE: Fully rideable bikes (in order of acquisition): • 56 cm Bombadil, originally raw clearcoat with drops and 9 speed XT drivetrain, now repainted black and rebuilt (by me) with Rohloff drivetrain and Bullmoose bars. SON dynamo lighting all around, Pass and Stow and Tubus racks. A wonderful bike, but interestingly doesn't get much riding time. Most of my riding at home is on the road, so Homer or Quickbeam usually get the call. Drop bars, Woody's fenders. Still my favorite bike. Here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/14449120190/in/album-72157645233707117/ • Custom A.N.T. truss bike, built by me (!) at a weeklong framebuilding course with Mike Flanagan in Massachusetts. Matte finish rust colored powdercoat. Built up as a fixed gear, with wooden rims, Paul Components parts, Rivet saddle, and Bosco bars. Really fun bike, and a source of pride for me as the only bike I had a hand in actually building the frame. Here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/8088486352/in/album-72157630285823166/ • 61cm Homer Hilsen. Built by Riv with Noodles and XT drivetrain, White industries hubs. Just installed a carved Cambium, which I love. This and the 'beam get most of my riding time. Here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/19721490691/in/dateposted-public/ • 61 cm Atlantis. This bike has been through a couple of iterations, but the basic build is still as it arrived from Rivendell. Custom Pewter paint job, Albatross bars, 9 speed. Dynamo lighting. This is a supremely comfortable bike, wonderful tourer, but somewhat duplicative of the Bombadil. I'm probably going to sell one of them. Make me an offer! Here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/11252425444/in/album-72157624427413755/ • '85(?) Stumpjumper. This bike was built around a cool wheelset that I bought from Jim Thill, Phil Wood rear and SON front, 48 spoke rear and 40 spoke front. Talk about a bombproof set of wheels! It has the Nitto racks with the removeable low-riders front and rear, and Bullmoose Bosco bars. It's completely redundant, given the Bomba and the Atlantis, but I like it and it gets ridden as a loaner from time to time – and a nice loaner it is. Here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/9785981285/in/album-72157635815847045/ • '85 Bridgestone MB-2 Resurrectio. Repainted and completely rebuilt as a sort of townie bike. 2 speed Sturmey Archer Kickback hub, laced to the original gold ano rim. Alba bars. The Paul Flatbed rack screwed up the handling, so it's gone. Brown Fat Franks. This bike is probably headed to the Shore as the engine for my 2 year old grandson's new Wee-Hoo! Trailer. Here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/6708095501/in/album-72157628383880621/ • Rivendell Mystery Bike (the proto-Appaloosa). Dark, SimpleOne-like green. I installed fenders, dynamo lighting, and a Tubus rack, but otherwise it's pretty much as received from Riv, with the Bosco Bullmoose bars that it was designed for. Hasn't been ridden much lately, but writing this makes me want to move it up in the rotation. Wonderful, absurdly comfortable bike, rides like a limo – an excellent handling limo. If Riv does bring these into production, believe the hype! Here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/8367710962/in/album-72157630957672582/ • Mid-'90s Trek hybrid, rebuilt for my wife with an 8 speed Shimano Nexus IGH. Albatross bars. Not ridden much. She rides all the time at the Shore, but uses one speed beater cruisers. • Gitane Tour de France, around 60cm. Tasteful purple color. Nice bike, never gets ridden. Bikes partially built, but not currently rideable: • '70s (?) Raleigh Competition, completely reimagined and modified by Peter Weigle as a low trail 650B randonneur. I'm in the middle of building the wheelset for this bike. It's a really stunning bike; should be finished in a week or two. Here it is as mocked up by Peter for sale: https://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/8432741668/in/datetaken/ • 59 cm S&S coupled Saluki. Painted Bleriot blue. This bike has the nice Herse crankset, Paul Cantis and Noodles. Cambium saddle. This bike is basically done, but I need to tweak the fit. I'm retiring in a few months, and I envision this as my travel bike --- I hope it gets a lot of use! Here's a pic of it on the stand: https://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/14812526809/in/dateposted-public/ • Rivendell Wilbury, 59cm (?), dark green. Has its single speed wheelset (650B Ghisallo wooden rims, White ENO eccentric rear hub, Weigle-drilled Campy front), but nothing else. Waiting for the time when I can't comfortably swing a leg over my current bikes. Beautiful bike. Here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/8119883720/in/album-72157631845152497/ AT THE SHORE: • Lynskey Ti frame with Surly LHT fork, built up as an odd triple crank 8 speed with upright bars and cream-colored Fat Franks. It's a fun bike, but has killer toeclip overlap. Here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/6012332165/in/album-72157627368474492/ With the recent acquisition of my fatbike, this one doesn't get ridden much at all. • 2014 Salsa Mukluk 2 fatbike. This bike is an absolute hoot to ride. I ride it on the beach in the early mornings when no one's out – I can ride for miles and miles without encountering a single decision – no cars, no turns, no people, just beautiful sounds and sights of the Atlantic. Also a blast on abandoned RR tracks, of which there are a lot around the Shore. My favorite bike at the Shore. Here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/19671765176/in/datetaken/ • Giant one speed cruiser, with Brooks Hoxton basket and fun fenders. This is my jump on and ride bike – no need to lock, no need for gears. It's actually a really fun bike to ride. Here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/6919298402/in/album-72157629422829002/ • Klein carbon fiber go-fast. My wife's triathlon bike. Looks terribly uncomfortable to me, but she likes it. • And about a half dozen beach cruisers in various sizes, so houseguests can always find a bike to ride. -----Original Message----- From: rbw-owners-bunch@googlegroups.com<mailto:rbw-owners-bunch@googlegroups.com> [mailto:rbw-owners-bunch@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of murphyjrfk Sent: Tuesday, July 28, 2015 8:26 PM To: RBW Owners Bunch Subject: [RBW] What's in your garage? I always wonder-i betcha there are a lot of cool bikes around. And right now I have a lot of bikes. I feel a bit self indulgent but I don't feel too bad when I think of the use. I have a pretty "bikey" family, a "bike" job and live in a great city to ride bikes in. I don't drive much either-like under 2k miles a year so that makes me feel even less guilty. But i'll start in order of importance.-well at least my order. 51 sage green Sam. Best bike ever. Get's used every day. 54 orange quickbeam. Super duper fun. Cannondale Adventure 2 step through hybrid. Permanent baby seat gets used a lot. Electra Townie 7d. My wife's ride which is super fun. 1969 Schwinn Twinn-which my oldest daughter (8) thinks is the coolest bike ever. Mostly because she doesn't have to pedal. And it has baskets for all her dolls. Jamis Capri 24 that's my oldest daughters ride. Fine little bike. First one she got to pick out all by herself. I asked her why she likes it best-she said it makes me feel like I'm a teenager-I'm in trouble. Surly LHT which usually sees super nasty weather duty. I'm not sure if I'll hang on to that one but it's a good bike so I probably will. Needless to say we have never had a car in our garage. My wife stopped complaining a while ago. So I guess it's ok. I hope others play along. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
