For general cleanliness fetishist consideration: I managed to clean much of 
the accumulated road spooge off the tan skinwalls with Soft Scrub 
<http://www.softscrub.com/> Advanced Surface gel, which I saw recommended 
in a BikeForums thread sometime back. I found that squirting the gel 
directly on the sidewall and letting it sit for about a minute, then gently 
scrubbing with a soft toothbrush or terrycloth worked better than applying 
the gel to the scrubber first. It doesn't get you back to new-looking, but 
it's a noticeable improvement once the tire has dried off.
