I've got a nice new Nitto front rack. It has fun removable lowrider racks, but all the normal sized panniers are too narrow and too tall to fit it well. The bags that will fit well I can order from Japan, but I wanted to scope it out a little bit for free, before I commit to it. So, I took a few chunks of corroplast, a few yards of gaffer tape and threw together some DIY panniers. This is like the 5th or 6th bag prototype I've made. This one is unique because it has kind of a burrito wrap thing. Local frame builder Cameron Falconer does these plastic sheet burritos on all his camping bikes, and I wanted to kind of incorporate it into my design. I can throw two or three stuff sacks into each, wrap it with the plastic flap, and then strap it down. I'm really eager to try different loading methods to make sure the bike handles well. Anyway, it's fun to prototype stuff for free before you go throw a bunch of money at something.
