I have them on both Hillbornes. For me the weight is weight well spent. In
low/moderate-risk suburbia I park in lots of places where this is more than
what's really called-for but is probably as convenient as locking gets. And
in conjunction with a more robust lock it's just that much more dissuasive.

My attitude towards security went from "find the best" to "be reasonable"
when I had to "steal" my own bike once, due to a lost key. I got first-hand
exposure to something that was merely abstract until then: Stealing almost
any bike under almost any circumstance is *trivial* to any one who
*intends* to do it. Took me 45 seconds, first time trying (honest!
:)). Security is about making it really inconvenient, not about making it
physically difficult. When I walk away from my bike, I don't imagine
it's existentially protected from theft. In my environs, my bikes'
double-top-tubes, lugs, wet paint, and super-high handlebars may provide
more "protection" than choosing a high-end lock over a low-end lock.

Yours,
Thomas Lynn Skean
