Can't say what's common. But I have noticed that my Rando Hyper 700x38 
tires have worn generally more quickly. I'm sure I have more than 1000 
miles on them (probably less than 2000). They certainly aren't worn down to 
the fabric core but are more bare than my Schwalbe Delta Cruisers of 
similar usage on my other bike.

I keep them pumped higher than 50psi, that's for sure. Probably 65+ psi.

It's a trade off I recognize. I do enjoy riding on them, though. The size 
and weight work very well on my VO-befendered Hillborne. They do ride 
wonderfully. When time comes to replace them, I may get them again even if 
they don't last as long as some other tires would.
