First things first, are you certain that the medium reach brakes will fit?
Short reach calipers generally max out at 49mm reach, so just 2mm of
overlap with the adjustment range of medium-reach brakes. If the frame and
fork's brake reaches (distance from brake hole center to braking surface
centerline on the rim) is right in that 47-49mm range, you're okay, but
any shorter than that and you won't be able to adjust the brake pads high
enough.

I think that others around here have tried to get chubby tires in their
Roads, but I think the consensus is generally that ~33mm stuff like the JB
is just to close for comfort. It may clear in the work stand but not in a
practical riding scenario. I think Ruffy Tuffys are a safe bet (and a
great tire, BTW), or maybe something like the Grand Bois 29mm options to
eek just a little more cush out of it.
