I keep waxing poetic on the QB. I’ll have had it a year in a few weeks. It is amazing how much stronger my riding has gotten in that year. Here, at the prompting of Jon’s comment on simple bikes, is more waxing poetic about the Quickbeam’s simplicity.
Today, I was pushing the envelope for my and my brain, entering into urban (for me) trails, navigating them and their annoying quirks and various interfaces with auto lanes. about 98% of my ride once I was in town was on a MUP, and that was fantastic! I had a specific errand and thus a specific destination I had to navigate to (I don’t do well navigating urban environs). So this was definitely high on the cognitive therapy scale. The Quickbeam offered a different side of simplicity to me today. I never one thought about what gear I was in, do I have room to shift up or down, did I shift before that stop, and myriad other details that suck up brain energy. Pedal. Enjoy the ride. Stop when needed. Pedal some more. That’s it. Wow. So much easier to navigate the various people, bikes, strollers, scents, traffic, and more when I never once had to think about the bike. Then, at the west side of Manitou Springs, with the 4 mile canyon climb ahead, I shifted into low and headed home. It’s a stretch of road that would be amazing if there was no traffic, but there is and it generally has ruined it for me. But I was faster, had no shifting to do, and it was a Tuesday at 1pm so traffic was as light as it gets in daylight hours. It was far less unpleasant than I’d imagined it would be. So I got my glasses adjusted by the best eyeglass adjuster in the world (that I’ve met so far) and hd a blast doing it. Simply.
