I have a similar situation with my Kogswell G, which also has the render and track end issue. I just loosen the struts when taking the wheel out, which isn't too annoying when you have hex-bolt actuated hubs like Pauls or Phils or Profiles. The SKS idea is a good 'un though!
Sad that I missed the opportunity to get a Quickbeam at a decent price, but I'll cheer myself with the knowledge that my custom Mercian which I ordered thinking I would never be able to find a NOS QB will have forward facing dropouts (as well as a couple of other preferred geometry, tubing and other adjustments) which are totally worth the 9 month wait and expense.
