Woke up at 2am (sometimes happens since the brain injury) and felt great, so
took off at 3 am, taking advantage of the empty highway 24 to beeline it to
Lake George some 30 miles away. I froze my nünnie off on the 5 mile drop from
Divide to Flourescent, and eventually discovered both water bottles were 70%
frozen. Should have brought another warm layer. Shrug. The sun came up and the
world warmed and I thawed and kept all fingers and toes. That’ll teach me to
forget about windchill on 40 mph descents. Grin.

Made it part way up Elevenmile Cañon by 6am, sun rise was at 6:30ish, so I had
a pipe by the pastoral river watching from afar as river otters and geese got
into it. Also saw owls, hawks, eagles, elk, and deer. Managed a picture of some
of the deer.

Rode to the dam of Elevenmile Res., headed back down and turned off at Wagon
Tongue, taking it to a beautiful CR100 which rolls over high alpine terrain on
the western fringe of Pikes Peak. Yes, that road is as delicious to ride as it
looks!

All told it was about 10 hours in the saddle, 11 hours door to door. I guessing
90ish miles? By far my longest ride on since my days of riding in highschool
and college. What a blast!

Headwinds humbled me both directions, as they shifted while I was in the cañon
and forest.

Photos are in reverse order and I don’t know why. But here they are!
