I concur with both David and Patrick. Keep going with the iPhone, and if the pull of a camera camera is really strong, the Lumix is dynamite.
There are gloves with capacitative (capacitive?) magic thread in the fingertips for using a phone. I've seen Instructables for sewing your own into existing gloves, too.
