My wife is not the avid cyclist I wish she would be but she does love to do the grocery shopping and other errands by bike rather than car which is great. The best I could do was to get her to finally ditch her aluminum Fuji (with shock forks and shock seat to dampen the harsh ride) for a Public mixte. Even then it was only because it was discounted below $500. She was amazed at the difference a steel bike makes. Overall, they are not bad bikes for what they are but I would love to get her on a Cheviot or Clementine or even a SOMA Buena Vista. Not going to happen. But, who am I to question her love of that (very) bright orange Public mixte? As long as it makes for happy riding around the area, we'll get to share that time together and the hilly distance stuff will remain my "zen time". If I was to do that purchase over again, I would have tried to steer her toward Brooklyn Bikes. I'm intrigued as to what influence Grant had on their designs. That said, their matte black and red alternatives probably wouldn't get her to give up her happy orange Public. To quote others on this discussion, "the heart wants what it wants."
