Michael, Your Vermont problem is the same over here in the "southwest" (Pittsburgh). Average February temp. this year was 18.5°F, second to 1979 when it was 18.0°F.
I will take -12°F over 35° and raining any day though, and I think I'll have the chance to compare soon. 33° and snowing now. Shoveled the wet stuff off the walks and driveway twice already. Funny things happen when it get s this cold, when the DPW switches to calcium chloride the road can have wetness on it but the process of spraying off your tires must reduce the ionization and the it starts to freeze onto everything. My front fender mudflap has been mighty in preventing subsequent frozen slush mechanical failures this winter.
