Have you looked into setting up one of your 559/571 bikes with tubular
tires similar to how you have the Ram set up?  That could be a way to get
the plush construction you want out of a mythic 28mm 571 ERD tire.
Continental makes the Sprinter 250 in a 650c analog size and it has a
cotton casing, veloflex also has a model.  Both are sometimes referred to
as a 26x1" tubular. There must be others. Although that is going down in
size it might be improving in ride quality (a change of focus from biggest
tire to best.  You should be able to pick up 650c sized track tubulars for
little money and your method of riding the Ram with Stan's has worked well.
