Nice, short (always!) ride in the Corrales (NM; bucolic incorporation
adjacent to ABQ with faux horse ranches and old adobes and singlewides
strung out along the bosque) -- in the Corrales, NM bosque singletrack. I'd
not ridden this for 8 years or so, and it was great fun.

70*F -- global warming, 'cuz that's very high for this time of year; the
cottonwoods don't drop all their leaves -- the leaves turn brown but stay
on the trees -- so the woods was less stark in appearance.

I rode behind my brother Peter, who is a more agressive handler than I, and
who also was on a 26-er, more nimble; I on the Fargo.

Tight, curling, brush-beset trails in the cottonwood forest; the sand,
thankfully, mostly packed due to our recent precipitation. Perfectly flat,
as the trail parallels the Big River, but tightly turning.

Lotsa horse shit. And horses -- some riders nice, one rider in particular a
b*tc*. We stopped and invited her to proceed; she went by muttering
epithets, and we replied in kind.

Peter, brother, not paying attention, came around a corner at speed and
bumped front wheels with another rider -- P slammed on his front brake and
did a very worthy save; his rear wheel flinging itself into the air some 3
feet. No one, nor no bike, hurt.

Sorry, no photos -- was too busy keeping up with P. But -- and here's my
point -- I was very very pleased with the balance and feel of the Fargo.
I've complained about it: on pavement, at least with fat, soft tires, the
turn-in is less than ideal: hesitation, then dive. It's not horrible, but
it is noticeable, especially when you are used to the seamless turn-in that
is a Rivendell signature.

But, despite my poor handling skills, I was very pleased to find that the
Fargo tracked corners very, very well and felt perfectly balanced -- much
more so than on pavement. I found myself braking in turns so as not to
overrun Peter.

I bumped pedals twice; the Fargo has a lower bb. But that apart, wonderful.

Duh! After all, the Fargo is meant to be a dirt road bike; but nonetheless
I was pleasantly surprised.

Fargo: set up with 44 cm B 135s ~2-3 cm above saddle; 38/24 X
13-14-15-16-17-18-20-23-27 and a LX fd and a road Microshift rd pulled by
Silver shifters.
