I think that's the point, right, Eric? It's normal to vary between the two. I mean, by many objective measures a Rivendell is a "good enough bicycle", that is, tubing, component selection is definitely midrange. They *are* gorgeous, particularly compared to other production bikes, and the design/geometry keeps us coming back. Moxie's an interesting animal, but I always like what he has to say even if I'm not 100% in agreement, which is okay, because we're humans.
For me, I'm totally susceptible to overthinking things, doing lots of "research" before getting into something, and what Moxie is suggesting is that you should just get into something and live your life. It takes a lot of effort for me to let go of having "the best", so having someone tell me to go for "the worst" is a fantastic mediating factor.
