I switched to upright bars to alleviate nerve issues after decades with drops, and it's worked well. The Ergons are really nice and I use Paul's thumbies with the levers from my drop bar ends. The original Ergons are meant for flat or slightly swept back bars. I see they now have a version intended for bars with a lot of back sweep. Haven't tried them but it's another option.
