Indeed, Jim:

As a former racer of the Cat 3 variety, I appreciate a good romp down
an open road at 110 rpm.... but flying down a multi-use path at 30 mph
while scaring pedestrians and startling other cyclists isn't my idea
of good manners...nor anyone else's.

That being said, I've asked the good folks at Rivendell (I spoke to
Jay) to see if any of them would like to make the trek into the
hinterlands of Sacramento for the ride...I'll cross my fingers!!
