An alternative approach (relinquish control): When I ordered a custom Curt Goodrich, I told Curt: You pick the color; I trust your taste and judgment, just don't paint it white or gray.
I don't think he quite knew how to take that, because he kept asking if I'd be ok with some shade of blue, or red, etc. But I really didn't give a damn. I knew that it would look nice in any number of colors, and that I wasn't going to lose sleep if it wasn't the perfect shade of metallic puce. In the end he selected a color from his stock, which had been used on another frame he painted, which I liked.
