Hey Doug, I run the same cassette and crankset with an inexpensive SRAM 5 something on my 650b Rambouillet. The original 105 front derailer works great and I hardly use it. Rear shifting happens with a silver shifter on a Paul thumbie mounted on the handlebar. A silver shifter on the down tube takes care of the front. This setup works well for commuting and city riding.
