I ride in that area all the time. It is definitely worth the ride! Vernon
Blvd was repaved in the last few months and has a double semi-protected
bike lane. You can take it to the Polaski Bridge and over to connect to
Kent Ave. If you do ride it, I recommend checking out Socrates Sculpture
Park. Then, hang a left just north of that park, and ride through the
projects. It's a nice view of the lighthouse and UES. It winds around to
Astoria Park. If you ride all the way north of Astoria Park, you can ride
down 20th Ave, which also has a bike lane. Check out the Steinway Mansion
and Singlecut Microbrewery there! Also, in the area Skillman Avenue
through Sunnyside is lovely for bike riding. Email me off the list if
you'd like any other information or a guide!
