The simple physics is that light, supple tires with thin rubber are going to be punctured more easily than tires with thicker rubber, heavier walls, puncture strips, etc. It is not a criticism of high performance tires, that’s just the way it is. The things that make a tire puncture resistant are also the things that increase rolling resistance.
The individual rider has to consider what it is they want- a better more efficient ride at higher risk of punctures or lower risk of punctures at the expense of rolling qualities. My sweet spot has been Paselas which probably aren’t much different than the Grand Bois tires in the puncture sweepstakes. I don’t know about the relative performance merits of the various Gran Bois tires and Paselas, but the the latter cost 1/2 as much.
