On a touring bike, it would generally come down to the frame.  More
importantly, I don't really think it's a matter of "strength", per se.  The
frame on the Hilsen is certainly strong, but it certainly isn't optimized
for someone to hang 50 pounds of gear on it.  Personally, I doubt the frame
would fail, but it would certainly flex a bit under load.

Gino could probably comment more directly. He did a loaded 6 day tour on a
Saluki, which, by his description certainly worked, but did demonstrate the
result of heavy loads on a lighter-tubed bicycle.
