This spring I switched from 32mm Cypres to 38mm Barlow Pass EL on my
Romulus, mounted on Open Pro rims. I liked everything except how the wheel
seemed to want to dig in at a sharp switchback. I built a new set of wheels
with H+Son Archetype rims, and the tires behaved much better on the wider
23mm rims. I am now convinced that 38mm tires are too wide for standard
(21mm) road rims.

On a different note, I now have cuts on both tires. I booted my rear tire
which got cut by a cattle grate on King's Ridge. Now I discovered a 3mm cut
on the front sidewall, orthogonal to the outer threads and in the same
direction as the inner threads. I have maybe about a thousand miles on
them, and the rubber still looks new. I am tempted to glue a patch on the
inside made from a Challenge Paris-Roubaix casing, maybe some AquaSeal on
the outside. Is this safe? I typically run them at 50psi. The rear tire has
a similar patch, but I was less concerned as it is on the bottom (with
rubber on the outside), and it is rear tire. Perhaps I should rotate them
so the sidewall boot goes on the rear tire?
