I rode it 25ish miles last night and never got out of the big, er, middle
ring. I felt like when I had the XD600 triple with the 46 big ring that I
could have stayed in the big ring all the way up in the back but I was
concerned about cross chaining so I didn't go past the third one from the
top.

The cassette is still 11-34 and it seems that 44 front 34 rear is fine for
6% grades of the sort of length one usually finds around here.

I figure the little ring is going to be purely bailout on grades that get
into the teens or higher percentage wise. Or on lesser grades that are
long like I experienced during my recent trip to California.

It shifted great in the stand without touching the front derailer at all,
even without pins and ramps and the 16 tooth jump. Just have to be careful
not to pull back too far as it will quite happy jump up onto the bash
guard. (unlike the old big ring on the Sugino triple....sigh....). I'll
adjust the high limit screw when I get around to it.
