You are correct that a Marathon XR is not the right tire for the kind
of riding you intend with the AHH.

The Marathon Supreme in a 38 or 40 is an excellent choice.  Durable,
quiet, fast roller on pavement with enough tread for relatively soft
ground.

If it turns out you are not going off road at all, seriously consider
the Shwalbe Kojak.  It is well made and rolls wonderfully.  My niece -
who is an above average athelete - placed very well in a corporate
challenge on her Kojak shod commuter against many plastic skinny tired
racers.
