One more thing on the seat vs. trailer. With the seat on bike you can talk to 
your kids easily up front, a bit in the rear, very hard in the trailer. I do 
think if you topple the kid falls a long way, but I don't like having my kids 
at bumper level, either. 
I have always been cavalier about having my kids sit on my rear rack, then a 
few days ago my 3 and a half year old got his foot stuck in the spokes as we 
were heading off. Kind of like slamming their fingers in the car door, 
something I have done with another child. Doesn't make you feel very good. 
>From now on I'll have my little one on my Yuba with skirt (or toesie) guards 
or be much more careful to see where their feet are!
