My knowledge of the LOTR material is limited but someone mentioned an
"entmoot" was a celebration by woodland creatures, but done at a slow
pace. I think our Sunday ride nailed that. Especially when the option was
to tag along with the single speed crew. Now those people are tough!

Hankering for serious breakfast, Ryan, Hugh, Curtis & I headed west from
China Camp, getting as far as a farmer's market near San Pedro & the
freeway. Absolutely amazing in size & scope, we nibbled and sipped our way
thru the entire place. Hundreds of serious shoppers loading up with
goodies. Getting directions to the bike trail down to San Rafael, we
covered another 3-4 blocks before spotting a likely source of electricity
for the various devices in need of feeding. It was a church & the guy in
charge of checking kids in & out was most helpful & friendly. After
getting only partial charges, it was pushing mid-day so we bungled our way
thru San Rafael, picked up the bike trail near the Larkspur Ferry, headed
to Tiburon. Even with the excellent Marin County Bicycle Coalition Map the
route became mis-placed a time or two. Eventually finding Tiburon, a stop
for wild trail side black berry picking resulted in a conversation with a
Dutch family on rental bikes. The kids had helmets but not the adults.
Mom said "helmets look lame, no one in Holland bothers, but here the kids
had to wear them." Around 3ish we found a market for lunch that had out
door seating in the shade and an electrical outlet to finish the device
charging. A leisurely lunch later we continued on around the peninsula.
Of course, now we knew our way so less map checking and more riding. An
afternoon tailwind shot us back into San Rafael, where we found an
excellent taqueria across the street from Re-cyclery. Our return route to
China Camp took us up Grand Ave. On the map was a tiny bit of red with the
note "OK for cyclists to use 101 shoulder". Fortunately it was downhill &
short, dropping us right onto San Pedro, only a couple of miles from camp.

Total elapsed time: around 10 hours. Total distance: 30ish miles. So we
averaged about 3 mph. And had a great time, meeting some interesting
people, and sampling plenty of food opportunities. Hopefully some pictures
will surface.
