In reverse order: Little Red Ride & Riv elders speech, LOL. Isn't the Clem Smith Jr. Logo most likely the cheap Riv speculation? Why is indexed shifting so tied to a point and go bike? Friction seems way simpler to me, to ride and especially in mechanics. Move the lever one way to go up, the other way to go down. Do people returning to bikes after a decade, or bike novices really expect indexed shifting, and assume it as a requirement? I think grip shifting, triggers, and brifters (and having to decide between them) seems fantastically complicated.
