The Albastache may well be worth trying. I love them on the bounces and washboard. The grip position is similar to the bullmoose in that I can grip the bar firmly and brake with one or two fingers. Trouble is it takes a change of brake levers and switch to a 26 stem clamp, but you need a new stem for other bars anyway.
I'm with Hugh in that I'd try all "reversible" options before taking a hacksaw to it.
