Another area you may want to consider that's closer to Brooklyn is Putnam County, NY (just above Westchester). A while back in the RCOG group Mark in Beacon mentioned some dirt roads to the east of Cold Spring. Intrigued, I had mapped out a route starting from Metro North's Cold Spring train station, but I haven't gotten out that way just yet (I'm on the other side of the Hudson in New Jersey). Below is a snippet of Mark's post: "I've been putting lots of miles on my rSogn, with many of those being hardpack--Indian Brook Road, Old Albany Post Rd, Sunken Mine Rd. Last Saturday did a 45 miler with about an hour of singletrack, most of the rest hardpack; four hours of non-stop fun on a bike." Bob
