Thanks again for the replies. After much soul searching, anxiety, and general fretting I have decided to stay with Kojaks, because, if they are not entirely excellent as fast tires, they do fall into the category technically known as *pretty darn good*. If 28 mm wide was sufficient, I'd probably buy some Michelin "WildRunr" tires, but, beside the sickening name, 28 mm is just too narrow (never thought I'd say that) for this particular bike (which carries heavy rear loads and pounds over 3-6" wide pavement cracks (which are due, so I read, from the asphalt shifting in our sandy soil, not to our high desert temperature extremes).
