At home: I usually spray the bike off with a hose and wipe it down. I only re-lube the chain when the chain starts to make noise. Too much lube is as bad as too little.
On tour: I'd go crazy if I obsessed about the bike getting wet. It sits out in the rain overnight and it gets rained on during the day. I wipe it down every so often and I give it a good cleaning at home when the tour is over. As insurance against corrosion, I spray the inside my frames with Boeshield before I build them up and I grease the stems and seatposts liberally before I install them.If you bought a built-up bike that may not have been prepped, it's pretty easy to spray the frame after the fact - just look for all of the holes where water might enter and spray away.
