I was on the other end. I bought that 1987 used Schwinn Paramountain on craigslist for $400. I did the overhaul and put another $400 of parts on it (B17, bosco bullmoose, thumbie shifters, brakepads + cables, chain, 3 chainrings). I did the build so that it would be dialed for me. When my wife busted me, I told her it was for the Elementary School bike auction, and I tried to sell it for $600. I got yelled at by two different people telling me what a jerk I was for asking $600 for that bike. I cheerfully asked each of them what they thought was a fair price. Both were under $200. Needless to say, I didn't sell to them, but they left absolutely convinced that I'm a crook. My wife shook her head and said "so you're keeping it, huh? surprise, surprise!"
